Is the hostel located in a safe area?
Los Yoses is a pretty safe neighborhood. However, it is always smart to be cautious when wandering around at night by yourself. Just stick to the main roads and you'll be fine.  We have a 24 hr reception so one of our staff members will be glad to call you a cab when needed - there cheap and much faster than a bus! The hostel also has a camera at the front door, which we check before letting someone in or out the hostel.

Are there lockers I can use?
Yes, we have lockers at Casa Yoses for you to store your belongings.  They are free of charge -  you can use your own padlock or ask for one at the front desk ($2 deposit)

Is there a safe deposit box?
If the lockers are not enough for you, and you wish to be extra safe with your passport or similar, YES, we do have a safe deposit box you can use (for small items), and it is also free-of-charge.

Are credit cards accepted in Hostel Casa Yoses?
Yes, all major credit cards are accepted in our hostel

Can I pay the hostel using Traveler's Checks?
Traveler's checks are not accepted at Casa Yoses.  However, many banks are located at the San Pedro Mall, just a few blocks off from the hostel… you can change them there!

Can I rent a car or book a tour through the hostel?
We have a travel desk at Casa Yoses, where you can book anything from car rentals and tours to other hotels in any destination.  Just let one of our staff members know your needs, and he will gladly assist you with everything!

What's the legal drinking age in Costa Rica?
You must be 18 years old in order to drink/ buy cigarettes in Costa Rica.  Many bars will ask for an ID before letting you in… it is always better to carry a copy of your passport instead of carrying it around on a night out.

Is there a departure tax in Costa Rica? How much?
When exiting the country through an international airport, YES, there is a US$26 departure tax. It is always better to pay it cash, but there is also an ATM there, or you can use a debit/ credit card at the counter (either one will charge a small commission). When exiting the country through land transportation (to Panama or Nicaragua), NO departure tax is charged.

Can I leave some belongings at Casa Yoses while I visit the rest of the country?
Yes, we offer free-of-charge luggage storage for one week to all of our guests.
